Celebrating Louis Vuitton’s 160th birthday (and almost 120 years of their famous gold and brown check) the fruits of the much-anticipated Icons And Iconoclasts collaboration have landed. Behold the hautest of haute trunks, cases and, erm, punching bags, you will surely ever see.
Designers Karl Lagerfeld, Christian Louboutin, Marc Newson and Rei Kawakubo, as well photographer Cindy Sherman and architect Frank Gehry were licensed to do whatever they wanted with the house’s iconic motif, resulting in a one-of-a-kind collection of truly unique design feats.
From Louboutin’s ‘Classic Caddy,’ accented with the same scarlet that
adorns the soles of each pair of his shoes, to Rei Kawakubo’s ‘Bag With
Holes,’ a burned out tote that reveals the bag’s inner lining, each
creation is playfully distinguished by the unique signature of its
creator.
Newson's fleece-paneled backpacks are easily the most wearable of bags in the collection, a sensibility
that should serve him well at his new employer: Apple. Lagerfeld, perhaps the
project's most surprising participant, on the other hand, did the unimaginable by creating a punching bag, which also functions as a regular handbag. For
more serious training, a full-size punching bag and storage trunk, both
covered in monogram canvas, are available. To finish out the theme, a set of boxing gloves and their
weekender-like case are also part of Lagerfeld's capsule collection.
