Fashions That Are to Dye For

Trend Alert: Live and Let Dye.  Get ready for a fashion flashback and sport the trend that you swore you wouldn't be caught dead wearing after high school - Tie-dye.  Tie-dye often triggers a love or hate reaction among fashion followers, but it's time to forget any misconceptions you may be harboring about tie-dye prints.  This year they've been given a contemporary twist by current fashion designers.  Modern tie dye is characterized by fun patterns and colors in chic silhouettes and trendy detailing. The result is an absolutely stylish, laid-back look.
Before you cringe at the thought of the over the top hippie trend of yesteryears, let me show you how today’s tie-dye trend is actually wearable and less dramatic. With subtle and less psychedelic tie-dye effects, the trend seems to be getting a hopeful start this Spring as top stars and street style divas have been spotted making a fresh and current fashion statement with their tie-dye frocks.
Traditionally, the tie-dye look was heavy-loaded with strong graphic swirls and a dizzying mixture of colors that proved to be unsightly for those more conservative in fashion. To date, however, the trend is made to present subtle designs, which are more soothing to the eyes. Being color-friendly in nature, the trend remains fashionably relevant to the Spring and Summer seasons.
Among the free spirited and fashionable, sporting the trend is all about rocking fun shorts, dresses, blouses and even accessories that carry the whimsical dip dyed or blotchy color splatter appearance. Without a doubt, wearing a single tie-dyed piece will turn the most serious of us into a jovial spirit.  There are a few things to keep in mind, however, when choosing modern tie-dyes.  To avoid the full rainbow skittles effect choose pieces with one to three colors that blend together easily.  Look for interesting detailing and clothing cuts along with modern shapes that keep this trend current rather than retro.
A great way to incorporate tie-dye into your wardrobe is with ombre denim- it's the simplest and safest way to experiment with this bold trend. (Ombre is the graduation of color in a garment, like when a fabric is very dark at one end and gradually lightens).  Another great look, which also happens to be chilly-weather appropriate, is to pair a tie-dye dress with a black leather jacket and booties. Try a tie-dye cardigan with jeans and flats, a pair of tie-dye shoes with an all black ensemble, or an artsy-looking scarf around your neck with a denim jacket and black skinny pants.  If you're going to rock a tie-dye piece, just be mindful not to over do it on the accessories. Style around your bold pieces by keeping the extras sweet and simple.  The key is to avoid anything that resembles the "all over tye-die" hippie look to ensure that your version looks totally modern.
