Fall's Most Flattering Color Palettes

Bolds and brights are elbowing in on fall's subdued standbys. But there's no need to choose sides.  Instead, mix them in unexpected- and seriously fun- ways for a perfect threesome.

Palette #1 Red + Sand + Chocolate

Fiery crimson was a major runway trend and stars on the red carpet got the memo.  It's a true red- with not too much yellow or blue in it- that's gorgeous on blondes, brunettes, and redheads alike.  My suggestion: Ease into the shade by wearing a single piece and layering in neutrals.  A chocolate tweed skirt or sand-colored tote and booties, for instance, temper the intensity without sapping the heat.

Palette #2 Cobalt + Maroon + Navy

Blue sheds its soothing reputation with this strong hue, which jumps right out at you, especially when teamed with maroon.  A trace of navy will bridge the cool and warm tones; put the most flattering one up top, closest to your face.  Or opt for a print that swirls all three.

Palette #3 Olive + Steel Gray + Navy

With it's yellow undertones, this forest green reads like a neutral.  A pale pewter brings an icy note to the picture, while a rich blue makes the look cozier.  Overall, the vibe is slightly earthy without being frumptastic, especially if you go for an of-the-moment boyfriend coat or sexy mini dress.
