Hold On

Spring 2015 Colleciton

For his namesake brand's 10th Anniversary, Thakoon Panichgul has debuted a dynamic line of handbags.  Though the past few years have brought no shortage of young designer handbag offerings that hasn't stopped Thakoon from throwing his duffel into the arm-candy arena with a roster distinctly his own. While he has shown bags on the runway before- see Fall 2011's batik-print top handle or Spring 2014's pearl-strung evening pouch- and sold them intermittently, a full collection ranging from an iPod case (that can be worn cross body) to a saddle bag, duffel and shopper is now available exclusively at Barney's New York.  But, come spring 2015, the line will be expanding to other retailers in more fun and novel prints like raffia ikat and snakeskin with tribal-looking dots.

Thakoon wants the woman and her personality to be what others see first – which is why when you wear Thakoon, you really wear his pieces and they don’t wear you. His objective, yet assertive outlook on getting dressed translates to classic-with-a-twist bags that won’t conflict with your own unique sense of style. Quintessential silhouettes come with subtle, yet distinctive details. The Downing crossbody features flap-front closure you can adjust to your liking for a most uncommon touch, and with strong lines, the Hudson saddle bag is way more city than country. The Cornelia duffel, especially sweet in supple pale pink-nude calfskin, is punctuated by braided zipper-pulls. But how will I be able to say no to the same style in miniaturized python form?! As his lifestyle brand continues to grow, this complete line of bags is worth the decade-long wait and then some.
