How Should I Dress For...

A First Date?  How do you give the impression you didn't just spend the last three hours crafting the perfect balance between effortless and a jaw-dropping sexy?  Wear what makes you feel confident and comfortable.  Top priority: shoes you can walk in.  Stilettos on a grassy lawn are going to make you look like you're mincing along the whole night.  My hit list: Layers that adjust to changing temps, curve-hugging dark jeans, flats, and a cross-body bag will have you primed for any activity.

A Winter Wedding?  Flirty sandals and sheer dresses will leave you shivering, but mukluks may inhibit you on the dance floor.  Instead, select dressy winter fabrics like brocade and crepe, and opt for a warmer midi length style.  A sleeveless dress will look chic with a fur shrug and allow you to show some skin at the reception.  Closed toe, rounded pumps will protect your toes from a chill.  And don't fret about what the wedding party is wearing. We all know what bridesmaids dresses look like.

An Outdoor Concert? Whether you're headed to freewheeling Coachella or a symphony in the park, comfort is your biggest consideration.  Loose-fitting pants will let you spread out on a blanket (choose pockets that fit a pack of disinfecting hand wipes and other essentials), while cute sneaks protect your feet from the elements.  Even if you'll be in a seat, it's best to leave the strappy heels at home to prevent your tootsies from getting trampled in a crowd.

A Job Interview? For a conservative corporate office, keep the palette muted and sophisticated.  Go with a smart tailored suit or a shirt-and-skirt combo with closed toe pumps and a structured bag large enough to hold your resume.  Save the dangling jewelry and intense colors for a creative gig in fashion or the arts.  Always avoid pieces that expose a lot of skin and glove-tight anything.

A Funeral Service? Wear something that's dressed up enough to show respect, but that doesn't draw attention to yourself.  You don't have to be in head-to-toe black, but don't be in anything that makes a statement.  Forgo loud colors, bold prints, and splashy jewelry.  Black may be the safest bet, but other dark shades are also appropriate.  Deep plums, navies, or dark florals work well.
