Award Winning Fashion

On the heels of my last piece about fashion disasters comes today's post about award winning looks from last night's Grammys.  In my opinion Rihanna stole the show both on and off the red carpet.  Of course I may be bit biased since RiRi is one of my fashion icons, but any one with eyes could tell that her red sheer chiffon Alaia gown was the most breath-taking look of the night.  The only part of her otherwise flawless look that deserves to be criticized is her "Beat 'Em Down" Chris Brown accessory she sported on her arm all night.

My other two picks for best dressed of the night are Kelly Rowland, who wore a revealing black cut out dress by Georges Chakra and Carrie Underwood, who wore an understated, but elegant Roberto Cavalli black strapless lace gown.

Clearly, all three ladies went for the shock factor in the dresses they wore.  To their credit, each woman tastefully pulled off their revealing looks by showing just enough skin.  Katy Perry and J. Lo, on the other hand, failed miserably and managed to look XXX rated instead.  Each of them need to take a page out of the book of more classy women like RiRi, Carrie, and Kelly.

My worst dressed picks of the night, by far, are Adele and Florence Welch. The problem I have with Adele's look, aside from dress's print being absolutely hideous, is that for a larger woman she has too much going on.  I understand she recently had a baby and by no means am I faulting her for not having yet shed all the baby weight.  I am, however, faulting her for calling attention to her size with that loud print.  A fitted dress with a more modest and understated print would have minimized her frame, but still enabled her to play up her shapely curves.

There's really not much to say about Florence Welch, other than the fact that her custom-made iridescent Givency gown made her look like a teenage mutant ninja turtle.  The dress fit her beautifully and the color definitely stood out on the red carpet.  Those damn protruding spikes on her shoulders, across her chest, and down her torso, however, were like built in weapons capable of poking someone's eye out.  I didn't realize that stars attending red events these days needed to dress ready for combat.
